Li Yundi

Because I’m going to Liverpool for the weekend, a quick update and a half-formed thought –

1.  I have tickets to see Li Yundi on March 16.  He is playing an exclusively Chopin repertoire.  So excited.

2.  Let’s be honest.  We fetishize travel.  I too fall into the trap of making it an object.  Not that travelling isn’t amazing, but the hype can overwhelm the reality: let’s see only what there is to see, and see truly, seeking true revelation.

If a country is governed wisely,
its inhabitants will be content.
They enjoy the labor of their hands
and don’t waste time inventing
labor-saving machines.
Since they dearly love their homes,
they aren’t interested in travel.

Tao te ching (80)

(But let’s be clear, this passage isn’t about travel at all, but is a meditation on happiness and meaning.)
